KALW: San Francisco Proposition O Election Brief
“Prop O would create a fund to provide reproductive care at reduced or no cost to low-income people. The city’s Public Health department would also post warning signs outside centers that appear to offer full reproductive services, but instead discourage women from having abortions… Pro-Life San Francisco said the measure discriminates against life-affirming centers.”
The San Francisco Public Press: Proposition O — Protect Access to Reproductive Care
“In the official argument against Proposition O, Melanie Salazar, executive director of nonprofit Pro-Life San Francisco, criticized governments for ‘increasingly castigating’ what she called pregnancy resource centers — more commonly called crisis pregnancy centers — rather than ‘citing negative reviews or violations of the law’ at specific locations. Planned Parenthood spokesperson Christian Garcia told the San Francisco Standard that he was unaware of instances when women had entered pregnancy centers in San Francisco and been misled into thinking they were accessing abortion services.”
San Francisco Examiner: SF abortion rights measure a ‘template’ for other cities, advocates say
“San Francisco abortion-rights advocates and public officials say they hope a forthcoming ballot measure can serve as an example for U.S. cities seeking to preserve access to reproductive health care. San Franciscans will vote on Proposition O, otherwise known as the San Francisco Reproductive Freedom Act, in November… Pro-Life San Francisco, which says it seeks to counter the Bay Area’s ‘pervasive abortion movement,’ authored the ballot argument against Prop. O and alleged the measure unfairly targets crisis-pregnancy centers.”
Live Action: Live Action joins other pro-life groups to challenge pro-abortion narrative outside DNC
“Pro-life activists were present outside the Democratic National Convention (DNC) last week, beginning with a rally on August 22 featuring nine speakers and a press conference. Following the rally, many of the pro-lifers spoke with DNC attendees and passers-by, challenging the pro-abortion narrative. Representatives from Live Action, Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, Rainbow Pro-Life Alliance, Pro-Life Action League, Pro-Life Wisconsin, and Pro-Life San Francisco spoke at the rally along with other pro-life activists, and many also attended the protest outside the DNC.”
Christian Post: Supreme Court's decision on abortion drugs: A wake-up call for church leaders
“The U.S. Supreme Court's recent decision in U.S. Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine is a disappointing setback in the fight to protect women's health and well-being… The fact remains that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has failed to abide by its legal obligations to protect the health, safety, and welfare of girls and women. Sadly, the ruling allows these dangerous drugs to remain widely accessible without proper medical oversight.”
BBC News, Türkiye
“An ongoing legal battle in the United States will decide whether anti-abortion doctors and activists can restrict access to the abortion pill mifepristone because of safety concerns. The abortion pill has been legal in the United States since 2000, and the rules surrounding the drug have been gradually loosened since 2016. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made changes to the rules, allowing the pill to be sent by mail and purchased from pharmacies without a prescription.”
States Newsroom/Louisiana Illuminator: U.S. Supreme Court justices seem skeptical of limits on access to abortion medication
“The future of medication abortion access in the United States went in front of the U.S. Supreme Court justices on Tuesday, where several justices appeared somewhat skeptical as anti-abortion organizations argued use of the pharmaceutical should be moved back to what was in place before 2016… Melanie Salazar, 25, of San Francisco, California, who heads the group Pro-Life San Francisco, demonstrated in front of the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday, March 26, 2024, as the justices heard oral arguments over access to mifepristone, one of two pharmaceuticals used in medication abortion.”
Roll Call: In front of Supreme Court, a nation divided on abortion drug
“Hours before the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a major abortion case, advocates on either side of the debate began preparing for what they see as the most consequential court case since Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which ended the national right to an abortion. Police informally estimated that about 600 to 700 individuals gathered outside the Supreme Court in the lead-up to oral arguments in a challenge to the Food and Drug Administration’s regulation of mifepristone, a drug used in medication abortions… Melanie Salazar, executive director of Pro-Life San Francisco, who is 31 weeks pregnant, had the message ‘Fully Human’ written on her belly. She said she was part of a group of about 10 from Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising who had traveled to be in front of the court. ‘I’ve been feeling my baby move for months, and my baby is equally human like me,’ she said. ‘Any disruption to the abortion-industrial complex, like a pro-life win in this case, is a win for the pro-life movement, a win towards protection and conception in all 50 states.’”
Catholic News Agency: PHOTOS: 2024 Walk for Life West Coast and OneLife LA: ‘Powerful Witness to Life’
“Rain couldn’t dampen the hearts that champion the cause of the unborn in California on Saturday. Two annual pro-life events — the Walk for Life West Coast in San Francisco and OneLife LA in Los Angeles — drew large crowds in support of the sanctity of human life, despite the weather… Robert Byrd serves as executive coordinator for Pro-Life San Francisco, a secular nonpartisan, nonprofit pro-life organization. He led a group of walkers and manned a booth at the event’s information fair. He admitted that the heavy rain made this year’s event a challenge, but said: ‘It is always a great time to spend time with friends who recognize the value of every human life and know the truth about what abortion is.’”

Live Action: Anti-abortion activists arrested while seeking Justice for the Five
“Seven anti-abortion activists were arrested and released Thursday in Washington, D.C. as they protested outside of the Rayburn U.S. House of Representatives building demanding justice for five of the babies discovered one year ago in a medical waste bin outside Washington SurgiClinic. The babies appear to have been killed late in pregnancy, with one estimated to have been as old as 32 weeks. It may be possible that one of the babies was born alive and left to die. On Thursday, to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the babies’ deaths, activists from the group Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) sang and chanted in the street, calling on Congress to hold hearings for the babies and to pass a federal law protecting all preborn children from abortion after the age of viability.”
Christian Post: Progressive activists continue push for justice 1 year after recovery of 5 full-term aborted babies
“The progressive pro-life group that recovered the bodies of five, [sic] full-term aborted babies from an abortion clinic in the nation's capital last year demonstrated outside the D.C. Board of Medicine Tuesday, demanding regulators revoke abortionist Cesare Santangelo's license to dispense medication… During the Tuesday press conference, PAAU founder Bukovinac was among several pro-life activists who spoke about Santangelo and raised concerns about the Washington Surgi-Clinic's practices. Other speakers included Kristin Turner, executive director of Pro-Life San Francisco and PAAU's communications director, and Pro-Life San Francisco Executive Coordinator Robert Byrd.”
Los Angeles Times: Democrats keep pushing to bolster California’s role as an abortion sanctuary
“Kristin Turner, executive director of the nonproft Pro-Life San Francisco, said AB 710 will make it harder for abortion opponents to support women during their pregnancies. But she said the legislation that concerned her most is AB 1646, which will allow out-of-state medical students to practice abortion…in California for 90 days. ’If California does this, our biggest export will be murdered children,’ Turner said. ‘If Gov. Newsom signs these bills, it won’t just be his hands that are covered in blood, it will be his entire office.’”
San Francisco Chronicle: Antiabortion activists are coming to California
“When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last June, Melanie Salazar felt empowered to ramp up her fight against abortion. But her home state of Texas had already put in place laws to ban the procedure — her enthusiasm might be wasted there, she feared… ‘It’s a game of offense now, not defense,’ since Roe was overturned, Salazar said. ‘And I feel like California is the place to be.’ Salazar, who plans to move from Austin to San Francisco later this year to become a full-time activist, joins a robust antiabortion movement in California as the war over reproductive rights shifts from national campaigns to state-level skirmishes.”

Christian Post: Major pharmacy chain won't dispense abortion pill in some states amid pro-life backlash
"According to a 2021 peer-reviewed longitudinal study conducted by the pro-life research organization Charlotte Lozier Institute, the rate of emergency room visits after a chemical abortion increased by over 500% from 2002 through 2015... In response to pharmacy chains taking steps to dispense the abortion pill, various pro-life groups, including the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising, Rehumanize International, the Society for Truth and Justice, the Pro-Life Action League, Pro-Life San Francisco and Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust conducted nationwide protests through the #StopAbortionRx campaign.”

"An anti-abortion activist was taken into custody by the Phoenix Police Department Tuesday morning after scaling the now vacant 40-story, 483-foot Chase Tower in downtown Phoenix, just a few blocks away from ASU's Downtown Phoenix campus. He faces criminal trespassing and nuisance charges. The 23-year-old man, Maison DesChamps, also known as 'Pro-Life Spider-Man,' free-climbed the tower around 9:45 a.m. bringing awareness for an anti-abortion charity that raises money for its efforts to persuade people not to have an abortion. This isn't the first time DesChamps climbed a building on behalf of an anti-abortion organization — he's scaled buildings in New York City, Oklahoma City, San Francisco and other major cities... Kristin Turner, executive director of Pro-Life San Francisco, met DesChamps after he climbed the city's highest skyscraper, which was over 1,000 feet tall. According to Turner, a prayer vigil was held Tuesday moments before DesChamps' ascent. She was one of a few speakers attending the rally on behalf of DesChamps."

The event started with a rally at Civic Center Plaza outside City Hall with two stages and several speakers. Then participants walked through the city down Market Street... Robert Byrd, the executive coordinator for activist group Pro-Life San Francisco, told The Epoch Times during the rally that abortion laws have changed recently in California. 'Last fall, with Proposition 1, which California leaders poorly educated the voting population on—it created it so that elective abortion, abortion without any medical reason, was legal throughout birth,' Byrd said."

LifeNews: Pro-Life Democrats Protest at Democrat Party HQ: Stop Pushing “Baby Genocide”
Coinciding with two new polls showing growing support for abortion limits, pro-life Democrats and progressives held a rally Wednesday outside the Democratic National Committee headquarters to urge party leaders to re-think their radical pro-abortion position. The Democratic Party platform is extreme and out of touch with most Americans, and recently its leaders have refused to even listen to Democrats who believe unborn babies deserve protections and care. So, pro-life advocates with Democrats for Life, Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) and Pro-Life San Francisco showed up outside its Washington, D.C. headquarters this week with signs urging the party to be 'Pro-life for the whole life' and end 'baby genocide.'"

Fox News: Coalition to stop California from enshrining abortion in constitution is bipartisan, diverse: 'Too extreme'
“A diverse bipartisan coalition of Californians is leading the charge against a ballot measure to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution, including some pro-choice voters who find the proposed amendment ‘too extreme.’ "Our diverse coalition and the coalition itself does not take a stance when it comes to the morality of abortion,’ said Catherine Hadro, a spokesperson for California Together, No on Proposition 1, which held a press conference last Thursday at the California state Capitol in Sacramento.”
Catholic News Agency: California voters must reject ‘no limit’ Proposition 1 abortion amendment, critics say
“Unlimited abortion would become a fundamental right, as would abortion on viable unborn children, if voters pass the proposed California ballot measure Proposition 1, a broad coalition has warned. ‘The proposed amendment to the state constitution has no language on limits and no recognition of the viability of the infant and late-term pregnancies,’ Bishop Jaime Soto of Sacramento said at an Oct. 6 press conference outside the capitol in Sacramento… The California Together, No On Proposition 1 press conference drew speakers from various political and religious backgrounds, including Catholics, evangelicals, Muslims, and backers and foes of legal abortion.”

“‘Our main goal was trying to get people to understand that Prop. 1 exists and that they should do more research on it and that they should vote against it,’ said Kristin Turner, executive director of Pro-Life San Francisco and one of the organizers of the anti-abortion protest. Prop. 1, which was passed by the California State Assembly in June, is on the November 2022 ballot. If amended, it will prohibit the state from interfering with an individual’s ‘fundamental right’ to choose to have an abortion and to choose or refuse contraceptives, according to the measure’s text.”
23ABC News: Two opposing groups attend abortion protest at University of California Berkeley
“Pro-Life San Francisco, is asking voters to vote No on Prop 1 in this year's elections. Proposition 1 would amend the California constitution to establish a right to reproductive freedom, which would include abortion. ‘I do think, though, that there are lots of students taking photos, videos, who probably never even knew what Prop 1 was, who now do, and that really was our purpose,’ said Anastasia Rogers, a member of Pro-Life San Francisco. Meanwhile, a separate group named Rise Up for Abortion Rights came out in larger numbers, chanting ‘a baby is not a baby until it comes out.’”
The San Francisco Standard: Anti-Abortion Protesters Travel From as Far as South Carolina to Crash San Francisco Women’s Equality Speech
“The scene descended into a shouting match between attendees and protesters, including those from the group Pro-Life San Francisco, with Stefani at one point evoking the lives lost at Uvalde and Sandy Hook and shouting back, ‘are you pro-life for kids that are dying in their classrooms? I don’t think so!’ The protesters said they were voicing their opposition to California’s Proposition 1, which will be on the ballot in November and would amend the California State Constitution to guarantee reproductive freedoms. Hayden Laye, an organizer with a group called pro-life LGBTQ+, says they traveled from South Carolina to attend the protest. Laye emphasized that they are a Democrat and sides with the party on most issues, but believes that life begins at fertilization.”

Lauren Handy, who faces similar charges in multiple cases around the country, was sentenced in Alexandria District Court to 30 days in jail, starting immediately. Terrisa Bukovinac was sentenced to four days. The two were among six activists who, in November 2021, trespassed in the waiting room of the Alexandria Women’s Health Clinic, handing out roses to women and advocating against abortion, according to news reports and a news release from the women. The other four were Joan Andrews Bell, Kristin Turner, Cassidy Shooltz and Jonathan Darnel.”

Handy spoke at a rally outside the office of the city’s Chief Medical Examiner… Terrisa Bukovinac, founder of Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising, spoke alongside Handy, and emphasized her horror at what they had seen two weeks prior. ‘We opened the plastic containers that contained the babies that are pictured in front of you today,’ Bukovinac told the crowd…
Speakers highlighted the paucity of D.C. laws regarding partial-birth abortion or protections for children born alive during the procedure… ‘We can end this gruesome practice that not only happens here, but happens across the country,’ said [Kristin] Turner of Pro-Life San Francisco. ‘My work in San Francisco is extremely similar. These abortionists are doing abortions, high likelihood of live birth, and no accountability.’”

National Review: Progressive Pro-Life Activist Says Movement Needs To Prepare For Post-Roe Fight In Blue States
“Terrisa Bukovinac knows what it is to feel like a black sheep. As a secular person with progressive politics, it took her a long time to feel comfortable advocating on behalf of the pro-life movement. While activists on both sides might see these two identities as competing, Bukovinac founded the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) last year to show other progressives there is space — and even a growing need— for them in the pro-life movement… In 2016, she founded Pro-Life San Francisco, which she says has given her a taste of what it is like to advocate for the pro-life movement in a very progressive, leftist environment.”

“On Tuesday, The Daily Wire reported that the University of California-San Francisco is harvesting genitalia from aborted babies. Pro-Life San Francisco recently obtained forty-two research logs showing that researchers had taken reproductive organs — including 'gonads' — from preborn children. The group also discovered that the university and its 'Women’s Options Centers' have no protocol for aiding babies who are born alive following botched abortions, indicating that survivors are in all probability left to die with no attempts at medical assistance. Under the financial auspices of Warren Buffett and the National Institutes of Health, UCSF’s involvement in the abortion industry extends far beyond the dissection of forty-two deceased children."

Kristin Turner, founder of Take Feminism Back and executive director in-training of Pro-Life San Francisco, sees this case as a chance for states to become more autonomous regarding their abortion restrictions… ‘We believe that the unborn deserve equal protection under the law. With that, we believe that equal protection must also come with support systems that make sure that we’re not just leaving these people out on the streets to figure it out for themselves, and we’re trying to come up with compassionate solutions,’ Turner said.”

But she disagrees on the issue of abortion and Roe v. Wade, which she sees as a ‘grave human rights injustice.’ Bukovinac said the group is supporting the Supreme Court nominee. ‘Our position isn’t just agreeing with a candidate 100%, it’s about addressing direct threats to human life through violence,’ she said. ‘We do think Amy Coney Barrett is the most likely to bring us together and to get to the heart of the issues the American people really care about.’”

“Shortly after abandoning plans to do away with the Hyde Amendment this year, the leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives has announced its plans to challenge the amendment next year, allowing taxpayer funding of abortions… As some House members attempted to remove the Hyde Amendment in July, Pro-Life San Francisco’s Terrisa Bukovinac told Fox News, ‘The Hyde amendment has saved more than 2 million lives that are disproportionately black and brown. Suggesting that these people are better off dead is itself an expression of the white supremacist ideals that gave birth to the abortion industry in the first place!’”
Townhall: Media Ignore Democrats Calling Out Own Party For ‘Abortion Extremism’
“The Democratic Party is ignoring 21 million Democrats – not to mention a majority of Americans – by championing one particular issue: abortion. According to pro-life leaders, the party’s support of the ‘greatest human-rights abuse of our time’ alienates their own contituents. On August 18, Democrats for Life of America (DFLA) hosted the National Pro-Life Democratic Caucus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, during the Democratic National Convention (DNC)… Many of the event speakers were also sponsors, including pro-life groups Live Action, Rehumanize International, Pro-Life San Francisco, National Men for Life, Pro-Black Pro-Life, and Americans United for Life. DFLA board director Terrisa Bukovinac opened the event that called on Democratic leaders to ‘abandon their abortion extremism.’ While the ‘majority of Democrats want to see abortion regulated, restricted, and taxpayer funding free,’ she said, ‘our party has gone in the complete opposite direction.’”

“For the first time since 2000, the Democratic National Convention did not permit Democrats for Life of America (DFLA) to caucus as an official part of the convention and refused even to allow them to testify before the platform committee — the latest signs of the party’s overt hostility to the pro-life movement within their ranks… Terrisa Bukovinac, founder of Pro-Life San Francisco and a member of DFLA’s board of directors, spoke at the DFLA event and participated in protests outside the convention leading up to the pro-life caucus.”

On Saturday, Aug. 15, a small group with a mighty message was in downtown Milwaukee. ‘To address the abortion extremism that emanates from that institution,’ said Terrisa Bukovinac with Democrats for Life of America. ‘We are Democrats, and we want to see our party actually represent the majority of Democrats.’ While the format of the convention has changed -- now almost entirely virtual -- Bukovinac said the organization still wants its message heard. ‘We came here despite it being virtual because there is really no other way for this story to be told,’ Bukovinac said.”
The College Fix: UC San Francisco Is Hiding Public Records On Its Fetal Harvesting Practices, Pro-Life Group Claims

Pro-Life San Francisco debuted a video Wednesday explaining the taxpayer-funded medical school’s political efforts to mainstream abortion, even needlessly gruesome procedures, and train generations of practitioners. ‘Live! From the Abortion Frontlines’ serves as a kickoff of a campaign demanding transparency from UCSF. San Francisco is the ‘Atlanta of the civil war,’ Terrisa Bukovinac, founder and executive director of Pro-Life San Francisco, said after the video premiere on Facebook. ‘When we win here, the abortion industry falls everywhere.’

Fox News: Pro-Life Leader Considering Legal Action Against San Francisco After Crackdown On Sidewalk Counseling
“A leading pro-life activist is considering suing the city of San Francisco after police admonished her and her activists for attempting to counsel women outside an abortion clinic, Fox News has learned. The police infringed on their constitutional rights, Terrisa Bukovinac, of Pro-Life San Francisco, and her lawyers contend… Bukovinac took issue with a particular incident on April 2, in which police purportedly issued a verbal warning to her and a citation to 86-year-old activist Ron Konopaski. The citation was the first in San Francisco related to the pandemic and fueled Bukovinac's contention that the city discriminated against her group because of its pro-life views. Bukovinac says the city's attorney's office assured her she wouldn't face arrest or reprimand for future sidewalk counseling. But she and her attorneys allege that the city failed to offer a public or written assurance of this.”

Michael Andraychak, a police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest on Friday and said that officers had previously admonished Konopaski for allegedly violating the order.”

Police told Ron that if he was there the next day, they would arrest him. Not to be intimidated, Ron and fellow volunteers from Pro-Life San Francisco returned on Thursday to advocate for the mothers, fathers, and babies inside the facility. Ron was indeed cited and arrested by police, and the other volunteers received written warnings with threats to be arrested if they return.”
National Review: The Pro-Life Movement You’ve Never Heard Of
“Though supporters of legal abortion often claim that efforts to limit it stem from a theocratic desire to impose the religious views of some on the rest of the country, the existence of a growing number of secular pro-lifers undercuts this assertion. One of the largest groups representing them is Secular Pro-Life, founded in 2009 by Kelsey Hazzard… Today, Hazzard leads the group with the help of two fellow atheist Millennials, Monica Snyder and Terrisa Bukovinac, the latter of whom is a member of Democrats for Life and the founder of Pro-Life San Francisco, which aims to galvanize young people on the West Coast.”

He's founder and president of White Coat Waste Project, a Washington-based group exposing experiments they consider a waste of life and tax money.
