On March 11, 2021, President Biden signed the very first funding bill into law IN 45 YEARS that didn’t include the Hyde Amendment. Since its inception in 1976, Hyde has saved more than 2 million lives from the violence of abortion, and although it has held bipartisan support in Congress for decades and remains popular among both Democratic and Republican constituents, we’re being pushed into an era where Americans in all 50 states are funding elective abortion procedures against their will. If Hyde isn’t applied to future funding bills, or made into a permanent law, we will continue to be complicit in offering free abortions to the poor and BIPOC members of our communities who are already facing extreme pressure to abort their children.
